    The purpose of this how-to guide is to help you quickly and easily navigate the regulatory requirements in the correct order without the agony of missing an important step.

    How do I use the guide?

    • Please read through the entire flow diagram before beginning to gain a full overview of what will be required.
    • Follow instructions in the boxes in the flow charts for clicking on links for more information.  
    • The Guide is best viewed using the Chrome web browser.
    • If you have specific questions regarding a certain process, please contact the regulatory offices directly.
    • If you encounter dead links or outdated information please notify us.

    Which regulatory bodies are included?

    • Emory Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) - regulates all laboratory research
    • Institutional Review Board (IRB) - regulates human research
    • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) - governs animal research
    • Additional guidance for other sites, such as Yerkes or VA

    Important tips

    • Work on multiple compliances at once, rather than waiting for each to be approved before moving onto the next. The timeline will help you plan accordingly.
    • Please note that it will take time to have everything completed!
