Dr. Kenneth Leeper has been a faculty of the Department of Medicine, in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine at Emory University since August of 1998. Prior to joining the Emory faculty, Dr. Leeper completed is undergraduate and medical training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio from 1970 –1979. Following a 1-year internship at Harrisburg Hospital – Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Leeper completed is residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. For the next 2 years Dr. Leeper served as a commission corps officer in the National Public Health Service in Springfield Ohio. In 1985 he returned to Henry Ford Hospital to complete a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine. During this time he served as a clinical science fellow for the first NHLBI sponsored PIOPED (Prospective Investigational pulmonary embolism diagnosis) trial. Dr. Leeper spent 1 year at Henry Ford Hospital as a junior faculty before accepting a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee – Memphis. At the University of Tennessee Memphis he was the Director of the MICU and Respiratory Therapy for 10 years. During this period he was promoted to Associate Professor and was tenured.

Dr. Leeper is currently Professor of Medicine and Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory Services at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Dr. Leeper has served as the Medical Director of the Long Term Hospital at Wesley Woods and currently Pulmonary Director of Select Atlanta Long Term Acute Care Unit.  Dr. Leeper has received numerous teaching awards and the distinction of “Best Doctors in Atlanta” award.  His research interests are severe pneumonia in the ICU setting and venous thromboembolism.
