Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship

The Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship at Emory University is a one-year intense training program designed to expose the trainee to all the advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for practice. The Interventional Pulmonology program provides service to Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital. A consultation service is also provided to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

During the year of training, the fellow will have the opportunity to participate in more than 2,000 procedures. Under the direct supervision of the three formally trained interventional pulmonologists, graduates of this training program will be fully trained and capable of managing a spectrum of pulmonary, complex airway, and pleural diseases. In addition, the fellow will also learn the skills and knowledge needed to establish or join an academic interventional pulmonary program.

The Interventional Pulmonology fellow will actively participate in the weekly multidisciplinary thoracic oncology conference attended by physicians and colleagues from Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology. The Interventional Pulmonary fellow will also be responsible for participating in weekly tracheostomy multidisciplinary rounds and implementing the Emory designed decannulation protocol. The fellow will be required to complete at least one original research project and is encouraged to present at a national meeting during his or her fellowship year.
