Dr. Roman's research focuses on the role of extracellular
matrices and matrix integrin receptors in lung vasculogenesis Role
of extracellular matrices in lung injury and repair Control of proinflammatory
gene expression by extracellular matrices Tissue remodeling in granulomatous
inflammation in sarcoidosis and tuberculosis Role of nicotinic acetylcholine
receptors in control of fibronectin expression |

- Determining the mechanisms by which reactive oxygen and nitrogen
species alter endothelial barrier function.
- Determining how fatty acids modulate endothelial nitric oxide
production.
- Examining the mechanisms by which alcohol ingestion increases
the risk of ARDS.
- Activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma
increases endothelial nitric oxide release.

David
Guidot , MD |
The lab for Alcohol and Lung Biology |
| |
The focus of Dr. Guidot's lab is identifying mechanisms
by which oxidative stress injures the lung. Currently, a significant
aspect of this work involves the study of how chronic ethanol ingestion
perturbs the homeostasis of the critical antioxidant, glutathione,
and how this glutathione depletion leads to an array of cellular
defects that render the lung susceptible to acute edematous injury. |
