The field of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine is a dynamic area with continuing advances being made in discovering disease mechanisms and treatment. Our division is deeply involved in the development of these changes with internationally recognized expertise in many areas. New advances in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine are utilized in the excellent patient care provided by the division members in the Emory Clinic. Our training program offers a balance of clinical and bench research experience, as well as superb clinical experience at Emory University Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, Crawford Long Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Annual Department of Medicine Awards

June 2008

Golden Apple Awards:

Dr. Kenneth Leeper and Dr. David Shaz were awarded at Crawford Long Hospital.  Faculty members at the Crawford Section have received this award in the past and they continue to excel in resident education.  This is a wonderful contribution to our program and the residency program as a whole. 

Dr. David Guidot was awarded at the VAMC.  This is especially noteworthy for a physician-scientist since such individuals spend less time with residents.  Only  true triple-threats can do this.

The Golden Apple Award is presented to faculty members recognized by the residents for excellence in teaching at each of the respective hospitals.   Two faculty members are recognized at each hospital.

Fellow Teaching Awards

Dr. Carter Co received this award despite the fact that he has been here for less than a year. 

Early Career Faculty Research Award

Dr. ShouWei Han received this award.  This award is given in recognition of a junior faculty who produced the most outstanding publication during the past year in the areas of clinical research and basic research.

Quality Achievement Award

Dr. Micah Fisher became an awardee for his efforts in critical care medicine.  Note that this is  the first time this award is given.   This award is presented to the Department of Medicine faculty who have made outstanding contributions to clinical quality improvement or quality improvement teaching, leadership or research.
