I am very pleased to announce the appointment of W. Robert (Bob) Taylor, M.D., Ph.D., as Division Director of Cardiology. Dr. Taylor is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology and holds a joint appointment as Professor of Biomedical Engineering in Emory's Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. He has an outstanding reputation as an investigator both nationally and internationally and is a superb clinical educator. Dr. Taylor has been serving as Interim Director for the last seven months and during that time has shown exceptional ability and creativity in guiding the Division of Cardiology toward a bright future while building upon a distinguished heritage.
Dr. Taylor has served on our faculty for over 16 years and has held many leadership positions. He holds a Ph.D. in Physiology from Johns Hopkins University and a M.D. from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Taylor completed his postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins, Beth Israel Hospital and Emory University. Dr. Taylor's research focuses on the study of the mechanisms and consequences of vascular inflammation. His research has received ongoing federal funding, and he is currently PI of both an NIH funded Bioengineering Research Partnership grant and a RO1 and Project Leader for a Nanotechnology UO1 grant.
Dr. Taylor will continue working in close partnership with Dr. Douglas Morris, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs for the department and Interim Director of the Emory Heart & Vascular Center, who will continue his role in our cardiology clinical operations and strategic program development. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Morris look forward to enhanced focus on and growth of our translational and clinical research programs.
Dr. Taylor has demonstrated outstanding commitment to all three components of our tripartite mission. I am very grateful and excited for his willingness to accept this important role.
