April 01

Lorenzo Difrancesco is now Senior Associate Program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and will become Program Director for the Residency Program later this year. Dr. Difrancesco joined Emory's faculty in 1997, after attending medical school and residency training here. Widely recognized as one of the Department's most outstanding clinician educators, he has received numerous teaching awards. "I'm excited about taking over from Dr. del Rio," says Difrancesco. "He has set an excellent example of leadership, and I look forward to continuing and growing the tradition of excellence in our residency training program."

Jeffrey Lennox has assumed responsibilities as Vice Chair for Grady Affairs and Chief of the Emory Medicine Service at Grady. Lennox joined the Emory Faculty in 1994, and he also serves as Medical Director of Grady's Infectious Disease program, known as one of the nation's premier HIV care sites. Also principal investigator of the NIH-funded Emory HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, located on Ponce de Leon Avenue, Lennox says he's looking forward to working with the whole department on a regular basis. "My new role expands involvement within Medicine, and I'm excited about the opportunity to work with staff, faculty, and residents," he says. "I want to improve the quality of teaching at Grady even more," he adds, noting that it will be a challenge to improve on the current program.

Derek Miller has moved into the role of DOM Executive Administrator. Miller has been part of the DOM administrative team for 12 years, and he will work in partnership with Paul Hammonds, executive director for TEC Internal Medicine, to oversee the Department's administrative operations. "I have to say what an honor it is working with faculty and staff who are actually changing the world," he says. "Working in healthcare at Emory, at this time, holds many exciting prospects."
