Dr. Gunthel's research focus involves the pathogenesis and clinical management of HIV-associated malignancies. I am generally interested in the relationship between viral infections and immunosuppression in the development of cancer. He has a particular interest in the epidemiology and biology of human herpes virus 8 as it relates to Kaposi’s sarcoma, primary effusion lymphomas and Castleman’s disease.

Dr. Gunthel has 6 published research articles, 3 published review articles, contributed to 3 different textbooks and has published works in other formats as well.
