I am a sociologist by training and my work examines the ways social structure and the built environment affect health outcomes. My research delves into the social psychology and sociology of health, social epidemiology, occupational health, infectious diseases, and the connections between the built environment and chronic diseases. I am currently involved in the following studies: (1) Trucker networks, drug use, and disease transmission; (2) Latin migrant laborers and occupational health; (3) Indigenous institutions, social networks, and HIV risks in Ethiopia (4) Former Soviet Union/Eastern European migrant women, bridging, and disease risk; (5) Environmental influences on the obesity risks of long-haul truck drivers; and (6) Occupational health
of urban bus drivers.
