Our research focuses on the opportunistic fungal pathogens, namely Candida spp. Although normally benign human commensals, these yeasts can cause devastating effects in immunocompromised patients, leading to potentially fatal infections. The spread of HIV and the increased use of immunosupppressive therapies has led to a constant rise in the incidence of Candida infections.
More specifically, our lab is interested in the epidemiology and prevention of Candidiasis, the virilence, pathogenicity, and genetic subtyping of Candida albicans, as well as the antifungal susceptibility of various fungal isolates.
