Volunteers needed for Emory HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials at Grady
Study ACTG 5240: HPV/GARDASIL Study
HIV positive female volunteers, age 18-45, are needed to participate in a research study that will determine the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of the HPV vaccine GARDASIL in HIV-infected women.
This is a 72 week study at the Ponce Center in Midtown. Must be on a stable HAART regimen for at least 12 weeks prior to study entry. Study ACTG 5235: HIV Associated Memory Problems
HIV positive male and female volunteers are needed to participate in a research study at Emory University that will determine if treating cognitive impairment, dementia and/or memory problems with Minocycline will better brain function in HIV positive patients.
This is a 24-48 week study at the Ponce Center in Midtown. Patient must be on a stable ART for 16 weeks. Please contact Carolina Ibarra at 404.616.6333 to learn if you are eligible to become a participant. Compensation will be provided for time and travel once enrolled in the study.
Study ACTG 5241: OPTIONS Study
HIV positive male and female volunteers whose medicine is no longer working are needed to participate in a research study at Emory University. Patients must currently be on a protease inhibitor-containing regimen, have a viral load greater than 1,000 and are resistant to or have received multiple types of HIV medicines. To be eligible, patient must have never received an integrase inhibitor.
This study will last 2-14 months. Not all drugs will be provided by the study. Please contact Carolina Ibarra at 404.616.6333 for more information and to learn if you qualify. Compensation will be provided for time and travel once enrolled in the study.

ACTG trials currently at Grady include:
ACTG 5202: EFV or ATV with RTV combined with FTC/TDF
or ABC/3TC in Naive Subjects. This study will be looking at first treatment
combinations for HIV infection. This trial is for treatment-naive patients.
ACTG 5212: Palifermin for inadequate increase in CD4+ cells. The study will use three different doses of palifermin (recombinant human keratinocyte growth factor) to see which dose causes the greatest increase of CD4+ T cells (a measure of the immune system) to be produced from the thymus gland. This trial is for patients seeking an immunity enhancer study.
ACTG 5229: Uridine Supplementation in HIV Lipoatrophy. This is a study of the effects of uridine supplement (NucleomaxXr) on patients with body fat changes who are currently taking anti-HIV medications. This trial is for patients experiencing side effects from HIV medications.
