Our research is focused on harnessing the full potential of dendritic cells (DCs) to augment anti-microbial (HIV) immunity by novel vaccine strategies as follows:
1. Numerically increase the number of DCs in vivo
2. Targeted delivery of antigens to APC by creating vaccine antigens physically linked to cellular or other proteins, having the affinity to bind receptors/ligands on the cell surgace of APC
3. Modulating the DC functions by administration of TLR ligands as vaccine adjuvants
4. Constitutive activation of TLR signaling pathways by vaccine antigens bearing TLR cytoplasmic domains, called toll IL-1 R domains (TIR) |
