Mentoring
Residents will find that Emory's
Primary Care Residency Program is a learner-centered one in which residents
help choose the course of their curriculum, their rotations, and their mentors.
Each resident will have a faculty mentor who will serve as guide and adviser
to the resident throughout the program. Mentors are chosen from a pool of skilled
clinicians, teachers, and researchers who have specific interest in guiding
residents during their training.
Beyond fostering this special one-on-one bond, the program facilitates
meaningful interpersonal relationships among residents and between residents
and faculty. Collegiality and camaraderie are integral to the kind of support
system that any physician-in-training needs. To that end, the program will
provide opportunities for faculty and residents to interact, including journal
clubs, guest lectures, dinner parties in faculty homes, book review sessions,
ethics discussions, barbecues, and other special events.
