OverviewThe Emory Epithelial Pathology Research Development Center is a newly funded Digestive Diseases Research Development Centers (DDRDC) by the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The current membership includes 33 investigators from various departments with a shared research theme of understanding the biology and pathobiology of the digestive system. The goal of the Center is to provide shared resources and facilities for this group of highly focused investigators in order to enhance research capability, promote new research directions, and foster strong interactions and collaborations among the researchers. In particular, projects supported by the Center are concentrated on investigating the physiologic, inflammatory or proliferative responses of epithelial cells. There are 3 core facilities in the DDRDC:
The Center provide funds to support the operation of these core facilities in the forms of salary support of technicians, purchase of laboratory supplies, consultation of experimental design, maintenance and service of equipment and discounted rates of usage of the core Facilities. It is expected that the Center will enhance the research capability of the participating investigators and further foster the development of a strong epithelial pathobiology group at Emory.
