Dr. Vandenberg is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics and is based at Emory Wesley Woods in the Center for Health in Aging. She conducts health services research to improve care for older adults using mixed methods, with an emphasis on qualitative methodology. She recently conducted a cross-national comparison of fall-prevention safety cultures among staff at nursing homes in Atlanta, Georgia, and Winterswijk, Netherlands, noting stark philosophical and technological differences which appear to impact safety and care. Additional research involves ongoing work on barriers and facilitators to self care among Veterans with chronic kidney disease, suggesting new avenues for patient-centered education.
Dr. Vandenberg received her PhD and MPH from Emory University and a Gerontology Certificate from University of Georgia. She has been an affiliate of the Healthy Aging Research Network and a Summer Associate at the National Council on Aging.
