Dr. Lubin received his BA in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and his MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He did his residency in categorical internal medicine at the Emory University Affiliated Programs.
He has been on the faculty at Emory since 1976. He was among the first members of the Division of General Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital. He has been involved in all aspects of General Internal Medicine including emergency care, episodic care, continuity care, and intensive care. He has also been involved in medical care of obstetrical patients and perioperative consultation. In 1984 he was a Hartford Scholar in Geriatrics at UCLA for a year and developed the geriatrics clinic at Grady Hospital. He has also been a Health Policy Scholar at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
He directs the senior medicine required clerkship for the Emory School of Medicine and attends in the resident continuity clinic. He also supervises in the Geriatrics clinic and the Preoperative evaluation clinic.
Dr Lubin’s scholarly activity is in the area of integration of information. He has published widely in the area of perioperative care and perioperative care of elderly patients. He is the editor in chief of Medical Management of the Surgical Patient 4th edition 2006 Cambridge University Press
Dr Lubin has been involved in the development of the Division of General Medicine for 30 years. He is currently involved in running the preoperative clinic at Grady and works weekly in the Geriatrics clinic and the appointment Primary Care Clinic. He also attends on the ward service two or three months a year.
Dr Lubin has been involved in teaching residents and students his entire career. He is currently director of the senior medicine required clerkship in internal medicine for the medical school and has been in that position for over 20 years. He regularly teaches junior and senior medical students when he is on the ward service. He supervises residents in the Primary Care Clinic, in the Geriatrics Clinic and the Preoperative Evaluation Clinic.
Dr Lubin has invested substantial time in the service of Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University. He was chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee at Grady for 23 years. He has also served on the Ethics committee. He is director of the Perioperative Evaluation clinic.
For Emory, Dr Lubin has been on the University Senate, the Faculty Council and has served on the advisory board for Emory Magazine. He served as the chairman of the University Advisory Council on Teaching, a group of faculty from each of the nine schools of the University dedicated to the advancement of teaching.
