Biography

Nurcan Ilksoy is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Ilksoy graduated from Ankara University School of Medicine in Turkey and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Emory University. She has been a faculty, since 1998, in Hospital Medicine Unit of Emory University at Grady Memorial Hospital. Board –certified in internal medicine she completed faculty development program in the Division of General Medicine at Emory University.

Dr. Ilksoy’s research interest primarily focuses on the improving the clinical outcomes of heart failure. She has pursued this interest through active involvement in heart failure research at Grady. One such project has been a retrospective study entitled “Quality of Care in Patients Admitted for Congestive Heart Failure at a Teaching Hospital”. She has published several articles and chapters in this area.

She has supervised housestaff at General Medicine wards 5 months a year and in the Primary Care Center during her off-ward months as an Attending physician.

Dr. Ilksoy is actively involved in teaching housestaff and medical students on wards and outpatient clinics as a supervising attending. She has also conducted several workshops including “Management of Congestive Heart Failure”, and “Acutely Decompensated Heart Failure” at Southeastern Chapter of Society of Hospital Medicine meetings.

After completing the Reynolds Faculty Scholar Program (Strengthening Physician Training in Geriatrics) in 2004, she has been actively teaching medical students and residents Geriatric Hospital Medicine through workshops and conferences as a Core Faculty of the Emory Reynolds Program.

With commitment to improving the quality of patient care, she has been involved in several projects in the congestive heart failure. She has been an active member of Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) advisory board for Heart Failure Initiative with significant contributions to core curriculum development in that area. She has been responsible in construction and maintenance of the Heart Failure Resource Room in the SHM website as the content editor/expert since late 2005.

She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Heart Failure Best Care Practice Committee of Grady Health System.
