Kreton Mavromatis, MD

Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiology, Emory University School of Medicine

Kreton Mavromatis, MD serves as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. Under his direction, the cardiovascular catheterization program has grown from one which performs 500 cases/year with one interventional cardiologist, to a program which performs over 1400 cases/year with 3 interventional cardiologists.  He has also established a large clinical trial research program involving 4 full-time research coordinators with 10 active investigator-initiated and multi-center trials, with excellent success in enrollment and patient retention. More recently, as an active independent investigator, Dr. Mavromatis has designed and directed several translational studies of the response to vascular injury, with focus on inflammation, oxidative stress and adult vascular progenitor cells. This work has lead to multiple abstracts and several manuscripts in preparation.

His major interest is the treatment of coronary artery disease using percutaneous coronary intervention. In addition, his interests include understanding the vascular healing and regeneration in ischemic heart disease.
