Executive Summary

The curricula of the principal medical schools in Tbilisi were established in the 1930's. The content has changed with respect to basic science and clinical studies to some extent, in order to keep up with change. However, a vast array of changes to the curricula made by medical schools in the West in the last twenty-five years has not reached Georgia or other parts of the former Soviet Union.

Some examples: problem based learning; simulated patients;
interview techniques; ethics; clinical responsibility during
clerkships; and others. The purpose of this proposal is to enable
academicians from Tbilisi to work with US medical educators in
order to revise their curricula. $1,000,000
