ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Emergency Medicine Service Training Center was opened in October, 1995, and has had a tremendous impact upon emergency medicine training in Georgia. The center was established in the same building as the National Information Learning Center and the Atlanta-Tbilisi Partnership office, and equipped with mannequins and other appropriate equipment. Curricula for various programs have been devised over the years, based on an initial core curriculum. There are satellite centers in Kutaisi and Batumi. The center has accomplished the following in the last five years:
Five instructors were trained in Armenia and the US
Seventy training courses have occurred, 65 in the center and 5 at remote locations
Over 2600 individuals have participated in these courses
Training has been given to: children; mountain guides; police; firemen; security guards; car drivers; governmental workers
Instructors have been trained to deal with nuclear accidents and to teach others how to handle nuclear catastrophes
Sites have been established for emergency care of the public and pipeline workers
The curriculum includes training for: cardiopulmonary resuscitation; airway management, including intubation and cricothyrotomy; central and peripheral venous line insertion; intraosseous injection techniques; delivery; neonatal resuscitation, and other techniquesPUBLICATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS
Three manuals in first aid and emergency care have been prepared: for health care workers, children and adults.
A color textbook in two languages was prepared:'First Aid.'FUTURE PLANS
Advanced courses in disaster and catastrophe management, including nuclear disasters.
Collaboration with oil companies for training and on-site management of emergencies
Creation of a telemedicine network
Establishment of a Consulting Center for Toxicology
